Acupuncture for Fertility: Real IVF Success Stories from My Clinic

Apr 27, 2026

Fertility can be a deeply emotional and complex journey. Many women come to me after months or years of trying to conceive, often alongside IVF treatment.

In my clinic, I use acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to support fertility by addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of reproductive health.

Today, I’d like to share two real cases that highlight how a holistic approach to fertility support can make a meaningful difference 💛

✨ Case 1: Supporting IVF Success with Acupuncture and Stress Regulation

A woman in her early 30s came to see me after trying to conceive for 5 years. She had already undergone one IVF cycle.

Presenting symptoms:

  PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

  Painful periods

  Dark menstrual blood with clots

  Brown spotting

From a TCM perspective, this is a classic pattern of Blood Stagnation, often combined with Qi Stagnation.

👉 In Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  Qi (energy) moves Blood

When Qi is stuck (often due to stress), circulation becomes impaired

Poor circulation can affect the uterus and reproductive function

She received 3 acupuncture sessions before her first IVF cycle, but unfortunately, it was not successful.

However, she remained committed to her fertility journey 💛

Before her second IVF attempt, she returned feeling emotionally overwhelmed after the previous failure.

Treatment focus:

Calming the Shen (reducing stress and anxiety)

  Regulating Qi flow

  Improving pelvic and uterine circulation

After a course of acupuncture treatments, she underwent IVF again…

This time, the result was positive.

✨ Case 2: IVF Support for Advanced Maternal Age and Repeated Failure

A 37-year-old woman came to me with a different history.

First child conceived via IVF (8 years ago)

  4 unsuccessful IVF cycles since

  Menstrual cycle appeared relatively normal

Despite this, her body showed signs of Kidney Yin Deficiency.

In TCM, Kidney Yin is essential for:

  Nourishing the uterine lining

  Supporting egg quality

  Promoting successful implantation

With increasing age and repeated IVF treatments, Yin can become depleted, reducing the body’s ability to support pregnancy.

She came to me with only 2 weeks before her next IVF cycle, which is a very short preparation window.

Treatment focus:

  Nourishing Kidney Yin

  Supporting overall vitality

Calming the mind and reducing stress

She received 4 acupuncture sessions before IVF.

✨ She later shared the wonderful news that she was 7 weeks pregnant 💛

This truly made my day.

She has since returned for support with pregnancy-related nausea, which I will share more about in a future post.

🌿 How Acupuncture Supports Fertility and IVF

Acupuncture and TCM can support fertility in several key ways:

1. Improving Blood Flow to the Uterus

Better circulation supports:

  Endometrial lining development

  Embryo implantation

2. Regulating Hormones

Acupuncture helps balance:

  Menstrual cycles

  Ovulation patterns

  Endocrine function

3. Reducing Stress and Supporting Emotional Wellbeing

Stress can negatively impact fertility outcomes.

Acupuncture helps:

  Calm the nervous system

  Reduce cortisol levels

  Improve sleep and emotional balance

4. Supporting Egg Quality and Uterine Environment

Through patterns such as:

  Kidney Yin/Yang balance

  Blood nourishment

  Qi regulation

💡 Final Thoughts: A Holistic Approach to Fertility

Fertility is not just about one factor. It involves:

  Physical health

  Hormonal balance

  Emotional wellbeing

Especially during IVF, the body is under significant demand. A holistic, personalised approach can provide valuable support throughout the process.
