When a Fertility Client Says, โI Really Feel You Helped Me Get Pregnantโย
Jul 11, 2026Recently, I received a lovely testimonial from one of my fertility clients.
“Fion is amazing. She is so kind and caring, and really takes the time to listen and work out the best treatment plan. She goes above and beyond to help. She has helped me with many medical issues (fertility, autoimmune, medication reactions). I trust her and really feel that she helped me get pregnant after a long time of trying. Thank you Fion! Xx”
Reading these words meant so much to me.
Of course, as a healthcare practitioner, I would never say that one treatment alone “made” someone pregnant. Fertility is complex. Pregnancy depends on many different factors, and sometimes even after extensive investigations, we still don't have a clear explanation for why pregnancy is taking longer than expected.
But this is exactly why I believe it is so important to look at the whole person, rather than only focusing on the reproductive system.
Fertility Is Rarely Just About the Ovaries
When someone comes to see me for fertility support, I don't only ask:
“When did your last period start?”
or:
“When do you ovulate?”
Of course, the menstrual cycle is extremely important. I will look carefully at cycle length, menstrual flow, blood colour, clotting, period pain, spotting and possible signs around ovulation.
But my consultation usually goes much further.
How is your digestion?
How are your bowel movements?
Do you feel unusually tired?
Are your hands and feet cold?
How well do you sleep?
Do you wake during the night?
How do you cope with stress?
Have you noticed changes since starting fertility medication?
Do you have an autoimmune or inflammatory condition?
What is happening in the rest of your body?
These questions may seem unrelated to fertility, but from both my nursing background and my Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, I don't believe we should look at the reproductive system in isolation.
The ovaries and uterus are part of the body.
Your nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, metabolism, circulation and general health all interact with each other.
This is why my approach to fertility support is always individual.
Sometimes the Fertility Journey Is More Complicated
This particular client's journey wasn't simply a case of “trying to conceive”.
There were other health issues to consider, including autoimmune health and reactions to medication.
When someone has a more complicated medical history, I believe listening becomes even more important.
Sometimes people have already seen several doctors or specialists. They may have had multiple blood tests, scans or treatments. They may have been given different medications.
And yet they can still feel that nobody has really had the time to sit down and put all the pieces together.
One thing I have carried with me from my many years working as a registered nurse is the importance of clinical observation and listening.
A laboratory result is important.
A scan is important.
A medical diagnosis is important.
But the person's experience is important too.
When did the symptoms begin?
What changed before the symptoms appeared?
How did the body respond to a medication?
Is there a pattern?
Has the menstrual cycle changed?
Has sleep changed?
Has digestion changed?
Sometimes a small piece of information can help us understand the bigger picture.
There Is No Standard Fertility Acupuncture Treatment
One of the biggest misconceptions about fertility acupuncture is that there is a standard set of “fertility points”.
Someone may expect to come into the clinic, lie down and receive the same acupuncture treatment every week.
This is not how I work.
Your treatment may change depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle.
During menstruation, I may focus on menstrual flow, discomfort or other symptoms.
Before ovulation, the treatment strategy may be different.
After ovulation, the clinical considerations change again.
If you are going through IVF, the treatment plan may need to work around ovarian stimulation, egg collection, embryo transfer or the two-week wait.
But even two women at exactly the same stage of an IVF cycle may receive very different acupuncture treatments.
Why?
Because they are two different people.
One person may be exhausted and sleeping poorly.
Another may have significant abdominal bloating during stimulation.
Someone else may be experiencing headaches, constipation or emotional tension.
Another person may have a history of endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS or recurrent pregnancy loss.
I treat the person in front of me, not simply the fertility diagnosis written on a piece of paper.
My Approach Combines Different Parts of My Clinical Background
My work today is strongly influenced by my background in both Western healthcare and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Before becoming an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist, I worked for many years as a registered nurse.
My nursing career included intensive care, rheumatology, elderly care and working with people with complex health conditions.
This background has shaped the way I think clinically.
I am interested in the medical diagnosis.
I want to understand blood test results.
I want to know what medications someone is taking.
If a client is going through IVF, I want to understand their treatment protocol and timeline.
At the same time, Traditional Chinese Medicine gives me another framework for observing patterns in the body.
I may look at the tongue.
I assess the pulse.
I ask detailed questions about temperature, energy, sleep, digestion, bowel habits and the menstrual cycle.
For me, these approaches don't need to compete with each other.
My role is not to replace fertility doctors or medical treatment.
My aim is to provide individualised complementary support alongside appropriate medical care.
Trust Is an Important Part of the Therapeutic Relationship
The sentence that touched me most in this testimonial was:
“I trust her.”
For me, trust is incredibly important.
Fertility can be a very vulnerable journey.
Clients sometimes talk to me about things they haven't discussed with friends or even family.
They may talk about miscarriage.
Failed fertility treatment.
Fear about age.
Relationship stress.
Financial pressure from IVF.
Or simply the monthly disappointment of seeing another period arrive.
I don't always have an answer.
And I will never promise someone that acupuncture or Chinese medicine will guarantee a pregnancy.
But I can listen.
I can carefully assess what is happening.
I can explain my clinical thinking.
I can adapt the treatment when the situation changes.
And when something is outside my scope of practice or requires medical investigation, I will encourage the client to speak to their GP, fertility clinic or medical specialist.
For me, this is part of responsible holistic care.
Looking Beyond “Getting Pregnant”
Of course, when someone comes to me for fertility support, pregnancy is usually the goal.
But I also look at what is happening to their general health during the journey.
Is their menstrual pain improving?
Is their cycle becoming easier to understand?
Are they sleeping better?
Is digestion improving?
Do they have more energy?
Are they coping better with fertility treatment?
Do they understand their fertile window and menstrual cycle more clearly?
Sometimes these changes happen before a positive pregnancy test.
And I believe they are important.
Fertility support should not make someone feel that their body is simply a reproductive machine that has “failed” to perform.
The person matters too.
Why This Testimonial Means So Much to Me
When I first started focusing more deeply on fertility and women's health, I knew this was an area where I wanted to combine my clinical experience, Traditional Chinese Medicine knowledge and genuine interest in understanding complex health patterns.
Every fertility journey teaches me something.
Every client is different.
And every time a client sends me a message with good news, I still feel incredibly happy for them.
So, to this lovely client: thank you for trusting me with your health and allowing me to be part of your journey.
And thank you for your kind words.
I am truly delighted for you and wish you all the very best for this new chapter. ๐
